Ima Midtown
Detroit-Style Noodles. Award-Winning Comfort Food.
Ima Midtown brings our celebrated noodle concept to Wayne State University's campus, serving students, faculty, and the neighborhood with warm, welcoming vibes and food that feels like home. Born in Corktown in 2016, Ima created what we call Detroit-Style Noodles—udon noodles in rich, pork-free broths that honor Japanese tradition while forging something entirely new.
Our menu features award-winning ramen, udon, pho, and rice bowls with extensive customization options. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diners find genuine variety here, not afterthoughts. From our Forest Udon with porcini broth and smoked trumpet mushrooms to our Spicy Tuna Don and crispy Karaage Chicken Sandwiches, every dish balances bold flavors with thoughtful ingredients.
This is casual dining done right—a study-friendly atmosphere where you can settle in with a bowl of Tori Paitan Ramen, grab a quick rice bowl between classes, or catch our $5 happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6pm. Ima Izakaya
Elevated Japanese-Inspired Dining in Historic Corktown.
Ima Izakaya is where our original vision fully comes to life. When we outgrew our shoebox-sized first location in 2016, we moved one block down historic Michigan Avenue in 2022 to create the full izakaya experience—a vibrant, energetic space where exceptional food, craft cocktails, and genuine community converge across from Michigan Central Station.
This is our flagship: house-made dumplings and skewers from our robata grill, fresh hand rolls from our raw bar, soul-warming ramen and noodle soups, thoughtfully composed entrees, and a weekday lunch menu that brings the izakaya experience to your midday break. Our bar program showcases rare Japanese whisky alongside creative craft cocktails and an extensive sake selection, with beautiful desserts that are the perfect finish to special occasions, date nights, or nights when you simply want to treat yourself well.
The space itself tells a story—live plants throughout, warm lighting, industrial-meets-cozy Detroit aesthetic, and a heated four-season patio where you can dine comfortably year-round. We've become a destination for adventurous foodies and a neighborhood hotspot where professional athletes, local artists, and musicians gather alongside regulars who appreciate quality without pretension. Join us for $5 happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-5pm, or make reservations for weekend dining when our dining room fills with energy, great food, and the occasional visiting DJ from Detroit's legendary electronic music scene.
Three-time James Beard semifinalist Chef Mike Ransom leads our culinary program, but this is a team effort—talented professionals committed to heartfelt hospitality and creating moments that matter.

Super Crisp
Halal. Japanese street food meets Detroit soul.
SuperCrisp takes everything we know about bold Asian flavors and brings it to fast-casual dining on Wayne State's campus. Born from the wild popularity of Ima's crispy chicken and tofu sandwiches, SuperCrisp is our love letter to street food culture—where culinary innovation meets gaming energy, and halal fast food gets the respect it deserves.
Our menu is built around twice-fried perfection: Karaage chicken, fish, and tofu sandwiches with options for regular or spicy, plus the ability to toss them in Spicy Szechuan or Honey Hoisin BBQ sauce. Loaded Kimchi Fries topped with kimchi mayo, spicy kimchi, scallions, and crispy shallots. Asian-inspired burgers and 100% halal wagyu hot dogs with creative toppings like curry slaw, pineapple chutney, and wasabi mayo. Chicken wings in bold sauces. Fresh, healthy sides like our Spicy Cucumbers with woodear mushroom and Szechuan chili vinaigrette.
Nearly every item on our menu is halal, with the exception of our funnel cake fries dessert. We have extensive vegetarian and vegan options using Field Roast and Beyond products. This isn't an afterthought—it's intentional, inclusive dining that doesn't compromise on flavor or quality.
The vibe is fast, fun, and unapologetically bold. Bright colors, street art energy, and food that hits way above typical campus dining. We sponsor the Detroit Student Race Team and we're proud to serve the Wayne State community with food that fuels late-night study sessions, quick lunches between classes, and weekend cravings for something with actual flavor.

Fresh. Bright. Healthy. Your Sunny Corner in Corktown.
Summertown Fresh Bar is Corktown's neighborhood wellness hub—a bright, groovy space on Michigan Avenue where fresh-pressed juices, energizing smoothies, nourishing bowls, and signature coffee drinks fuel your day from morning to evening. Opening in 2023 in the original Ima space, Summertown brings a different energy to our family of restaurants: sunny, upbeat, health-conscious but never preachy.
Our menu celebrates fresh ingredients and feel-good eating: cold-pressed juices like Gold Rush (pineapple, apple, turmeric, ginger) and Garden Boost (cucumber, kale, spinach, green apple, parsley, celery). Smoothies that actually taste good while delivering nutrition—try the Michigan Peach with peach, banana, cinnamon, sweet cherry, and oat milk. Power bowls built on your choice of vegan vanilla custard, chia pudding, overnight oats, or Greek yogurt, topped with fresh berries, banana, toasted almonds, and house granola.
Beyond the classics, we serve savory options: soba crepe wraps with garden veggie, sesame tofu, or citrus chicken. Toasts like our Avocado Crunch with edamame hummus and spiced pepitas. Fresh salads from simple garden greens to loaded power salads with quinoa, avocado, and goji berries. Warming soups including our traditional and spicy miso. Signature coffee drinks like Cloud Nine with green cardamom, cinnamon, and fresh mint.
The space itself is welcoming: a heated four-season patio where you can enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon smoothie year-round, live plants throughout, and a curated market section with unique non-alcoholic beverages, healthy packaged snacks, plus beer, wine, and sake for picnic supplies or evening relaxation.
We're more than a cafe—we're a neighborhood gathering place that hosts pop-up vendor fairs and live DJ events. A spot for all ages where health-conscious Corktown residents, young urban professionals, and anyone seeking quality grab-and-go options can fuel up, slow down, or simply enjoy a sunny moment on Michigan Avenue.
